Medalling at Euros gave Jonna Adlerteg new confidence

Jonna Adlerteg first made history when she won a silver medal on bars at the 2013 European Championships, getting Sweden’s first medal at Euros in over fifty years. A knee injury kept her from competing in Rio and her comeback was slow and difficult but she was finally rewarded by another European silver medal on bars in Glasgow.

Adlerlerteg talked to Gymnovosti after the uneven bars final.

Q: You were the first one competing on bars on the qualification day and your score held up in the first place until the end of the day. How did you feel about it?

A: I was actually very excited about it. In the end, when everyone finished competing, I took a picture with my phone and I zoomed in on my score, with my name on the top of the scoreboard and I just kept the photo for the future because it was special.

Q: What does this medal mean to you in your first big competition since your injury?

A: It means so much because I had a lot of injuries and setbacks and I just didn’t feel like I did myself justice. I’ve been frustrated with everything but I just kept working and kept believing in myself and in the process, and I’m so happy now to get a good result and to just believe in myself.

Q: What are your plans for the near future?

A: I’m going to keep competing and I’m going to World Cups in September and then to Worlds, and then I’ll try to go to World Cups and to qualify to the Olympics.
