Poliashov: Turns out I can fight for AA medals

Vladislav Poliashov was able to compete in the all-around at a major international competition for the first time in his career and earned a bronze medal. His main goal for this competition was to make parallel bars and pommel horse finals but that’s a tough task to achieve when only one gymnast per country make the even final and you’re competing for the same spots as David Belyavskiy. He felt like the all-around medal was his way to compensate for not making any event finals:

“I’m still processing that I won a medal, same as at Euros, it took me some time to process the fact. I’m a bit upset about the fact that I didn’t make the finals on bars and pommel horse, despite it being my main goal here. I had to compensate for it with the all-around. I knew that I needed to do pommel horse well in the all-around final and then I’d be able to win a medal. However, I got cautious, I was afraid to fall and ended up falling. But then I relaxed on the rest of the event, started doing my best and this worked. Perhaps, if I didn’t fall on pommels, I’d be nervous and started falling on other events. Well, whatever happened happened, the medal hangs from my neck, you can see the result.”

“I guess, I was originally focusing on individual events but, turns out, I can also fight for all-around medals. So, I’ll train both all-around and single events and we’ll see. My personal goal for this season is to qualify to the Olympic Games through Worlds Cups. And I’ll also try my best to make any international teams in order to test my routines before the Olympics.”
