Shchekoldina: I’ve completely recovered from my back surgery

Aleksandra Shchekoldina competed at her first major senior competition this week. The qualifications at the European Games did not go that well for her, with falls on beam and floor, but she managed to improve in the all-around final and finished 5th, less than 0.04 behind the third place. She tested her new beam and bars routines here and is currently working on upgrades on floor and vault:

“I really liked the competition. I’m very upset that I lost only 0.4 to the third place but overall, I’m happy with how I competed. I’m only upset about the beam. Today, the vault was my best event, it ended up being the cleanest. The fans gave me additional confidence. I normally am very nervous on the first event but then get used to the crowd, to everything and get calmer.”

“I’ve completely recovered from my back surgery already, everything’s fine, nothing hurts. Now, I need to clean up my new beam and bars routines and do them well at the Russian Cup. I really want to get at least 6.0 difficulty on floor. I also want to do an Amanar on vault and to add a second vault in order to make finals. I’ve already started training Amanar and the second vault will likely be a round-off half-on vault but it’s not for sure yet.”

“The coaches praised me but said that I need to work more on my beam and bars routines and to clean up my floor routine. Then, I have the Russian Cup, I’ll keep working and try to make the Worlds team”.
