Rodionenko on anti-COVID measures in Basel

Valentina Rodionenko told R-Sport that the organizers of the European Championships are very strict when it comes to anti-COVID measures and even scolded the Russian team for not observing the rules:

“Our women’s team were tested today, all got negative results. The guys are being tested tomorrow since they will start competing a day later. You know, even when you take the mask off for a second, an organizer comes to you and asks to put it back. Absolutely everyone is wearing masks, the whole Basel is in masks, there’s the strictest supervision at the competition. Every violation is reprimanded and everything is reported to the organizing committee. For example, I was told in the morning: “please, pay attention to your team, because athletes were walking without masks”. We are just surprised, since we tend to forget… You put the mask down and get reprimanded right away. It feels like we’re being constantly watched.”

“Our temperature gets constantly taken, we’re told to use sanitizers. I’m already joking that the skin on our hands will crack from these sanitizers but the athletes haven’t complained so far. It was very hard to get used to the first two days because we were constantly stressed but it’s easier now, we adapted a bit. But no one can guarantee that everything will go perfectly. If someone tests positive, everything can change.”
