Rodionenko: We’re self-isolating at the training center

Moscow oblast’s governor Andrey Vorobyev asked all residents aged 65 and older to self-isolate at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Russian national artistic gymnastics team has quite a few 65+ coaches and Round Lake, their training center, is located in Moscow oblast, so journalists form R-Sport asked Valentina Rodionenko if any special measures were taken by the coaches to protect themselves from the virus. Valentina Rodionenko is 83 years old and her husband, the head coach of the national team, Andrey Rodionenko is 77 years old.

Valentina Rodionenko told R-Sport the coaches are staying at the training center and continuing to work:

“Round Lake is our home, we’re not going out. What does it matter where we stay – in self-isolation [at home] or at the training center? We’re continuing to work, since the training center is isolated. We can’t stop, we have a lot of older coaches, those who are older than 65. We try to do what we are supposed to and we self-isolated at the training center.”

However, as Artur Dalaloyan said in a recent interview, the training center is not really isolated, since the gymnasts are allowed to leave and come back.
